During the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake Emergency, Streamliners NZ, acting as an agent for Canterbury District Health Board, needed to find a way to communicate with Doctors & Pharmacists. An SMS service by a New Zealand company, Bulletin.net, provided a rapid solution.
Ian Anderson, of Streamliners NZ, a User Documentation Specialist company, explained:
"In the days immediately following the February 22nd Christchurch earthquake the majority of medical and pharmacy practices had sustained damage and had no power, water or sewerage. It was vitally important to get the maximum number of practices operational as quickly as possible to meet the needs of an injured and traumatised community. Unfortunately the traditional communication methods to assess and respond to the needs of practices to help them get operational again were severely compromised, and the primary care emergency operations centre had lost some of its communication infrastructure. Non-traditional communication methods had to be found urgently.
Bulletin.net President, Bruce Herbert said "Everyone wants to help in emergencies like the earthquake in Christchurch, and we are glad our SMS services were able to make a difference.
